Making of the bacharika app

About the Project

The app I have created is to help users book a table at this restaurant without any charge, and to provide users with options such as delivery, take-away, and pre-ordering their food before they get there.

This project took a total of 3 months to complete. From December 2022 to February 2023.

Ideation process

It was my first Coursera Google UX design course project. I selected a prompt from the Sharpen prompt generator. My prompt was to create an app for a fancy restaurant. I began building my user persona, working on user journey maps, and my competitive audit. After weeks of hard work, I finally created the first-ever sketch wireframes inspired by my user journey maps trying to fill the gaps identified in the competitive audit.

Digital wireframing and low-fidelity prototyping

After going through numerous sketches, I decided to bring my designs to life on the computer. I created digital wireframes on Figma and then changed those to low-fidelity prototypes within Figma. You can find a link to my low-fidelity prototype below:

Usability studies and High-fidelity prototype

After making the low-fidelity prototypes, I conducted a usability study to find out how my app works for the target audience. I conducted interviews of 5 people, wherein I gave them tasks and observed them complete the task. I understood some major pain points the users experienced and then with the new gained knowledge, I moved forward to the part I  looked most forward to- High-fidelity prototype.

Final Usability Study and Completion of the high-fidelity prototype

After completing the very anticipated high-fidelity prototype, I conducted a second usability study. I selected another set of 5 diverse participants that fit the criteria of the target audience and moderated them while they completed the select tasks. This study identified some more pain point for the users. I corrected them and prepared my app for the "launch." The final edition of the high-fidelity prototype is given below for you experience.

My takeaway from this project

I found that my designs received great reviews from my study participants. As I conducted the second usability study things got easier for the participants. They were able to complete the processes much quicker and a lot more intuitively. 4 / 5 participants reviewed that they can see themselves using this app on an everyday basis.

The most important thing I learned is that an app is never fully completed. Numerous times I have thought “Oh, there isn’t any more changes to make!” And each time, there was a change to make. But I have been enthusiastic about it, and I love making the app perfect even though perfection is just a myth.

Thank you for following me on my journey through my first ever UX design!
